Students show school spirit for homecoming
The week of Oct. 21 was full of camaraderie, creativity, and competition for the students and staff of Old Rochester Regional High School. Although the annual homecoming week officially kicked off for the Bulldogs on Monday, Oct. 21, preparations had begun weeks earlier to make it memorable.
The ORR Student Council planned each event and decorated the halls and cafeteria to promote homecoming spirit. Each school day was a designated dress up day for the entire student body. Monday was pajama day, Tuesday was twin day, Wednesday was neon day, Thursday was Halloween day, and Friday was school color day.
The highlight of Friday was the pep rally. Each class prepared a skit to perform in front of the entire school.
"This is about class spirit, not class warfare," said Principal Mike Devoll.
The seniors, with over 100 members in their “Shrek” –themed skit took first place. Runners up were the freshman class with a 30-member creative rendition of “101 Dalmatians.” In third place was the junior class with a 60-person take on “Finding Nemo.” The sophomores’ version of “Pocahontas” took fourth place.
Face paint, unique costumes, and outstanding choreography were evident in each performance.
"Collectively, those were the four best skits," Devoll said.
The abundant class morale created by the pep rally carried over into the Bulldog’s Friday night football game against Seekonk. Then, with a 31-14 victory over the Warriors, Bulldog pride was high going into the annual Saturday night homecoming dance.
With more than 610 students in attendance, the dance with DJ Michael Rock, of Fun 107 radio, was a huge hit to top off the week. Students enthusiastically embraced the week’s events and look forward to building on their Bulldog pride throughout the rest of the school year.
