Summer library programs at Mattapoisett kick off with celebration

MATTAPOISETT — Mattapoisett Free Public Library is kicking off its summer program, Read Beyond the Beaten Path, at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25.

Library staff will be outside, weather permitting, with lawn games and treats, some from Oxford Creamery. Treats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. 

After the games and treats, participants can register for summer reading. Readers of all ages are encouraged to participate throughout the summer and be eligible to win prizes. 

There are two ways to participate, online using Beanstack or on paper with the Bingo forms. 

Children can also pick up a badge book to go along with Beanstack. Details are available at mattapoisettlibrary.org.

2:30 p.m. Children’s author visit and storytime with Alec Carvlin 

6:30 p.m. Author Nicholas Sullivan talks about “The Blue Revolution’’

Thursday, June 30

10:30 a.m. Summertime Storytots

3 p.m. Recycled soda bottle lantern craft for children. Registration is required

Friday, July 1

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Farm visits for children. Registration required for one of the half-hour time slots.

Craft Tuesdays are back this summer. A simple, quick craft will be available all day, starting on Tuesday, June 28. The first week, stop in and craft a frog from a toilet paper roll; next week fashion a necklace from flowers made of paper. 

The library will also host a talent show at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. Performers must register and have their talent listed by Saturday, Aug. 6.
