Surprise pajama day at Center School

Dec 21, 2018

MATTAPOISETT — The Center School elementary schoolers who would love to stay in pajamas all day probably rejoiced when their parents told them that for one day they could, even at school. Dec. 21 marked the school’s Holiday Pajama Celebration, where kids and teachers alike spent the day in pajamas.

As a surprise to students, the school arranged for a special storytime at the end of the day, where Principal Rose Bowman read the students “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Staff decorated the entrance to the gym, where the students gather every morning for morning meeting, then called students down to the gym. “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch played” as the students entered, and they were amazed to see the doors that they pass through every morning temporarily transformed. Many pointed, or exclaimed “Look, it’s the Grinch!”

Bowman read the story to rows of students seated on chairs on the gym floor, as the pages were projected onto a screen behind her. Afterwards, the students filed out of the gym (many just as tickled by the decorations as on the way in), and teachers made the end of the 2018 school year extra sweet by handing out candy canes.
