Tabor to host Special Olympics service day

Apr 22, 2017

On Wednesday April 26, Tabor Academy will welcome 120 Special Olympic athletes to campus to take part in their second annual day of service with Special Olympics. The School Day Games will pair students with intellectual disabilities with Tabor students as they compete in a variety of competitions across campus. Games will include, soccer, bocce, volleyball, basketball, flag football, track and field and gymnastics.

Tabor has been a service partner with Special Olympics for two years and hosted the first such day last April. “Despite a cold and rainy day last April, our students and faculty enjoyed the most joyful day with our friends from Special Olympics. As we plan this year’s service day, our student’s commitment to this partnership has grown deeper. Our Special Olympics Club ran a very successful and fun Polar Plunge in January, as well as continued the weekend young athletes skills program they began last winter. We are really looking forward to welcoming the athletes next week!” said Kerry Saltonstall, Director of Communications.

Registration for the event begins at 9:00 am on Wednesday, April 26, with opening ceremonies set to kick off at 9:30 am and events to promptly follow around 10 am. Closing ceremonies and awards will be held at the conclusion of the events at 11:30 am. After the awards, athletes will join their Tabor hosts for lunch.

Students from Carver, Dartmouth, New Bedford, SMEC, Cape Cod Collaborative, Plymouth, and Middleboro will be participating in this event.
