Tabor teams compete in Head of Charles

Oct 26, 2016

For the first time in many years, Tabor Academy teams competed in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. Two teams participated on Sunday in the Youth Men’s Fours and the other in the Youth Women’s Eights on Sunday.

The rowers were selected to join more than 80 schools in each division.

The boys – seniors Jack Gordon and Jon Mabie of Marion, Bryce Finley, Sam McClennon, and Jackson Hawkins – came in 17th place of 85 boats.

The girls – Mari Daly, Ellie Townsend and Sarah Crosby of Marion, Sam Raisidies, Victoria Milso, Maddy LaCasse, Hannah Strom, Piper Cole and Summer Hofeldt – came in 70th of 85 boats.

Six bridges and seven turns challenged every crew to steer the best line over the three-mile course. Crews started against the clock just before the Boston University Bridge in staggered order with two to three boat lengths separating the shells.

Tabor coxswains practiced on the course prior to the race and look to pass several boats on the way to the finish line.
