Tabor track teams takes home regional championship win

MARION— The Tabor Academy Girls track and field team won the New England Championships on the weekend of May 28.

The girls took home the win in the New England Championships after being runner-ups in the Independent School League championship the week before according to head coach Chris Adams.

According to Adams, the girls’ 4x100 relay team ran a new school record of 48.74 seconds which qualifies them for the New Balance Nationals championship race.

Students on the 4x100 relay team include Cate Parks of Marion, Ayla Sahin, Ava Lomberto and Sarah Adams of Mattapoisett.

Other highlights for the girls’ team  include Junior Ayla Sahin’s performance who recorded a 14.78 second win on the 100m high hurdles, breaking a school record and ranking her fifth overall in the category for the state of Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, The boys 4x100 relay team also captured the gold at the New England Championship with a school record time of 42.85 seconds. 

The boys 4x100 relay team includes Keenan Dewberry,  Julian Grant, Belal Khadry and Flynt Whitworth of Marion.

“It was certainly a year of speed for Tabor with deep fields in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relays for the boys and girls teams,” said Adams.
