Therapy dog Merida visits Plumb Library

Though April 19 may have been a rainy, dreary day for the tri-town, kids on spring break still made the most of it at Plumb Library.

Merida, a 3-year-old collie, visited the library to read a book with her human Cathy Acampora. The duo chose to read “Just Me and My Puppy” by Mercer Mayer.

After the story, Merida showed off some of her skills, including opening a cooler and retrieving a can for Acampora.

“She’s a therapy dog,” Acampora explained. “She loves doing this kind of stuff.”

Merida and Acampora are part of the Plymouth County 4-H program, and often spend time in schools and libraries.

“Her calling is love,” Acampora said.

The feeling, it seemed, was mutual, as children gathered around Merida to give her lots of pets and scratches.

“I liked her,” 8-year-old Allyson Alford said, turning to her mother and adding, “I want a collie!”
