Talk on Marconi Wireless Telegraph station

A presentation on Marion’s Marconi Wireless Telegraph station, which was built to handle all transatlantic radio traffic at the turn of the century, will be given by Marion Antiques owner Frank McName 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at the Marconi Building, 13 Atlantis Drive. Joyce Kohout will also speak on her father's experience working at the Marconi Station. Sponsored by the Sippican Historical Society, admission is free but donations are accepted. Friday, May 20 

Learn about white sharks 

Department of Marine Fisheries biologist Greg Skomal will talk about research being done to study the white shark population, which is growing in number in the Gulf of Maine in response to the recovery of seal populations, during a talk from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20 at the Marion Music Hall, 164 Front St., Marion. This presentation, sponsored by the Marion Natural History Museum, will highlight this study as researchers attempt to develop a science-based strategy for mitigating potential shark and human conflicts.​ Suggested donation is $8 for museum members, $10 for non-members. Recycle items to help Lions Club 

The Mattapoisett Lions Club is sponsoring an electronics and household appliance recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21 in the parking area next to Jacks Kitchen, 22 County Road, Mattapoisett.

Sunday, May 22 

Firefighters host horseshoe tourney 

The Marion Firefighters Association is hosting its first horseshoe tournament from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at Silvershell Beach Recreational Field, 1 Front St., Marion.

The event is open to everyone, horseshoe experience or participation is not required. There will also be a craft beer garden and entertainment by a classic cover rock band.
