A wheel-y good time at the car and motorcycle show

WAREHAM — As the oldies played and car-fanatics gathered in the Wareham Elks Lodge parking lot, many made a pit stop to see the dozens of vehicles attending the annual Car & Motorcycle Show on Saturday, July 12.

Evan Bumpus from Rochester was showing off his fully custom 1968 Chevy pickup truck. With air conditioning and power windows, the truck only has 800 miles on it since it had been redone.

“The truck is absolutely new,” he said, adding, “It’s a beautiful truck.”

Bumpus has been into classic cars since he was 16 and said he also has a Trevelle and a 1967 Nova.

“All my life I’ve been into custom cars and Corvettes,” he said.

Bumpus said he enjoys old cars more than newer ones because they’re a “better investment.”

"You can buy one today and sell it three years down the line and you didn't lose anything. And, you've got a bunch of enjoyment out of it,” he said.

The Downshifters Car Club in support of Cleanup Agawam Mill Pond threw the annual show to raise money to keep Agawam Mill Pond clean.

President of Cleanup Agawam Mill Pond, Mike Lenihan has been running the organization for eight years and said that all proceeds from the event will go right back into the pond.

"There's so many classic car clubs in South Eastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod area," he said. "There's nothing better than getting your car all shined up and parking it out here. You talk to your car buddies or people that have the same interests as you too.”
