Tree branch knocks out power for hundreds
MATTAPOISETT – A fallen tree branch knocked down a power line near the Knights of Columbus on Route 6, taking out power for hundreds of Mattapoisett residents on Monday, July 1.
According to Ross Macedo of the Mattapoisett Fire Department, the downed line started “little grass fires” that quickly extinguished themselves.
As of 2:45 p.m., the fires were extinguished and the scene was not dangerous, according to Macedo. First responders were waiting for Eversource to arrive on the scene to make repairs to the power line, which arrived minutes later.
According to the Eversource outage map, the incident took out power for 303 customers, including at the Sippican Week office in Mattapoisett.
At 3:07 p.m., the lights flickered back on in the Sippican Week office. Power has been restored for most residents as of 3:30 p.m., according to the outage map.
Eversource originally estimated that power would be back for customers around 4:15 p.m.
