Tri-County Symphonic Band to hold Sousa Spectacular April 3
The Tri-County Symphonic Band, under the direction of Philip Sanborn, will present a Sousa Spectacular on Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m. in the Fireman Performing Arts Center at Tabor Academy, 235 Front St.
This will be a concert in the style and manner of the famous John Philip Sousa Band. Trumpeter Jay Daly will be the featured soloist as the band performs classic overtures, suites and, of course, Sousa marches.
John Philip Sousa personified turn-of-the-century America. His compositions spread his fame, including "The Stars and Stripes Forever," "El Capitan," "Washington Post" and "Semper Fidelis."
The Tri-County Symphonic Band's tribute to Sousa begins with "The Liberty Bell March" and includes "Suite of Old American Dances," "The Free Lance March" and "Fugue on Yankee Doodle."
Two selections will feature trumpeter Jay Daly who has performed at Symphony Hall, the Colonial Theater, the Boston Opera House and Tanglewood, to name a few.
The concert will conclude with Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever."
Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults, $5 for students, with children 12 and under admitted for free. Tickets may be purchased at the Bookstall in Marion and the Symphony Music Shop in Dartmouth. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
