Tri-town fire departments have received more than $47,000 in funds through the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.

Marion received $17,500; Mattapoisett was granted $15,500 and Rochester was granted $14,200.

Under the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program, local departments can apply for up to 118 different types of eligible fire safety equipment.

This includes personal protective clothing, gear washers and dryers, thermal imaging cameras, assorted hand tools and extrication equipment, communications resources, hazardous gas meters and fitness equipment.

In many cases, the purchase of this equipment will help departments attain compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration or National FireProtection Association safety standards, according to the Department of Fire Services.
