Tri-town high school sports teams qualify for state tournament

Old Rochester Regional High School and Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School qualified for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s hockey and basketball state tournaments that kick off this week.

In order to qualify, teams had to rank in the top 32 seeds of their division.

The teams will face off against other schools in their respective divisions for a chance at the state championship title.

The power rankings heading into the tournaments were finalized as of Saturday, Feb. 22.

Old Rochester boys hockey

The Old Rochester Regional boys hockey team has had an exciting regular season, earning a six game win streak and ranking 15 in Division 4 heading into the state tournament with a 10-8 record.

Last year, the team made it to the semi-finals and lost to Hanover High School with a score of 4-1.

Their first match of the tournament is against Saint Bernard’s on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 4:30 p.m. in Tabor Academy.

Old Rochester boys basketball

The Old Rochester boys basketball team ended its season with an 11-9 record, ranking 20 in Division 3.

Last year, Old Rochester made it to the finals where they faced off against Charlestown High School and lost 61-40.

They play their first game of the state tournament against Tantasqua Senior High School in Fiskdale on Friday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.

Old Rochester girls basketball

The Old Rochester Regional High School’s girls basketball team ranked 13 in Division 3, ending their regular season with a record of 15-6.

During last year’s state tournament, the team lost their first game against Watertown High School with a final score of 47-28.

The team will play against Arlington Catholic in a home game on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.

Old Colony basketball

The Old Colony boys basketball team ended their season with an impressive record of 18-2, ranking 17 in Division 5.

During their last state tournament, the team made it to the semi-finals and lost to Mahar Regional High School with a final score of 56-42.

They will play against Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School in Methuen on Friday, Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. for their first game of the state tournament.

The Old Colony girls basketball team ranked 58 in Division 5 with a record of 4-16 and will not be progressing into the MIAA tournament.
