Unlicensed Rochester dogs risk fees for owners

Sep 21, 2021

ROCHESTER — In accordance with Town of Rochester Bylaws, the Board of Selectmen has issued a warrant to the Animal Control Officer requiring that all dogs not licensed for the current year be caught and confined until the owner complies with all licensing requirements.

The warrant also requires the Animal Control Officer to issue a citation to the owner or keeper of all such dogs.

The fines associated with these citations shall be paid in addition to any and all license fees, late fees, and boarding fees, if any.

The period for licensing dogs in Town began on January 1, 2021 and has run continuously since that time.

Effective July 1, 2021 a late fee of $25.00 was added for all dogs that remain unlicensed.

Unfortunately there are still many dogs that have not been licensed. The following is a breakdown of licensing and other fees that the owners of unlicensed dogs may expect:

Spayed and neutered dogs: License - $7; late fee - $25; citation - TBD; boarding fee - TBD.

Intact dogs: License - $10; late fee - $25; citation - TBD; boarding fee - TBD.

Some or all of the above fees that are TBD may be avoided by licensing your dog as soon as possible.

Any questions may be addressed to the Animal Control Officer at 508-763-5111 or the Town Clerk's Office at 508-763-3871 Ext. 117.
