Update: All beaches have been reopened as of Wednesday morning.

Four beaches in Mattapoisett were closed this morning due to high bacterial counts in the water.

The town beach, Leisure Shores, Crescent Beach and Shining Tides were all closed to swimming this morning by the Board of Health. The high bacterial count is likely the result of last weekend's heavy rains.

"This is the first time I can remember that Crescent Beach has been closed," said Danny White, Web Manager for the Town of Mattapoisett.

White said that the laboratory that tests local waters weekly released Monday's results this morning and the beaches were closed in response.  The town should know by tomorrow morning whether or not the beaches can be reopened.
