MATTAPOISETT — There are many myths associated with women’s clothing up until the 1920s, including wild statements like “women broke their ribs with corsets!” and “they wore so many layers they could not move!” How much truth lies in these statements?

Historian Abby Field will present a lecture called “Getting Dressed in 1900” to answer these questions, and to talk about how clothing can teach about history by showing socio-economic status.

The lecture will take place on March 24 at 2 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Historical Society.
