Susan Kenny made her way through the crowd, handing out samples of sirloin burgers. "We have to try to compete with those lobster rolls," she joked.

Compete they did, snatched up nearly as fast as the lobster rolls on a cloudy, windy day. The below average summer temperatures didn't stop the community from coming out to enjoy the First Congregational Church of Marion's annual Super Duper Fun Fair on July 29.

The fair, which is held and run by all volunteers from the church, is one of their largest fundraisers.

Volunteer Susan Smith, who also is in charge of running publicity for the fair, said that the church raises money for outreach programs and to help others in the community.

Smith volunteered her services at the baked goods table, where everything from cookies and brownies to whole cakes and pies were on offer. She explained that all the baked goods were donated by people in town, as well as people from the community. "We have great bakers in our church. You can tell!"

Whether fairgoers were searching for a sweet treat or some lunch, the fair provided quite a few food options. There were lobster rolls, chicken salad rolls, as well as hamburgers and hot dogs.

The small strip of Main Street where the fair was held was packed with tables of items to buy and activities for the kids. Among the options were face painting, arts and crafts, bean bag toss, and walnut boat racing.

There were also tables filled such various items as books for sale to tables full of nautical equipment, such as kayaks and snorkeling gear.

Underneath a small tent, a Silent Auction was in full swing, with items ranging from lamps, paintings, décor, to gift cards for local businesses.

In the basement of the church the volunteers set up rows of tables for a white elephant sale, which had variety of donated items being sold from dishes, to furniture and even some toys.

All of the items and food sold at the fair are donated from people in the community.

"It's a big community effort," Kenny said of the fair.
