MATTAPOISETT — Face painting, bubble blowing and a ton of trucks took center stage at Old Rochester Regional High School’s first ever Touch A Truck event on Saturday, May 17.

Families from across the South Coast climbed into trucks, school buses and vehicles from the Mattapoisett Police and Fire Departments, the Amaral Bus Company, Cape Code Express and more.

Drone demonstrations, snacks, crafts and temporary tattoos were also available to attendees,

“I think it’s all about getting outside with their family, but also getting the opportunity to check things out that maybe they see pass by them on the road but never get the opportunity to explore hands on,” said Liz Kennedy, early childhood educator at Old Rochester Regional High School.

Kennedy said the first-time event was a “huge, huge success.”

“We started small but have quickly realized that next year we’ll have to double in size,” she said.

Five-year-old Nova Palm of Rochester said her favorite part of the day was exploring the trucks.

She exclaimed her favorite was “the fire truck!”

Nine-year-old Krissey Varbero and six-year-old Sara Varbero were excited to hop into the trucks.

When asked what her favorite part of the event was, Krissey said, “I just finished the face painting so the face painting!”

“It’s just been a fun day,” said Kennedy.
