Win over Wareham clinches No. 1 seed for Bulldogs

The Old Rochester Boys basketball team recently secured its first South Coast Conference title since 1993, but an even sweeter victory occurred on Friday night.

For the first time in recent memory, the Bulldogs defeated rivals Wareham twice in one season following a 66 – 62 win on the Vikings' home court.

“It’s certainly the first time since I’ve been coaching,” said ORR Head Coach Steve Carvalho who has been on the bench for 10 years.

The win earned the Bulldogs the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Division III South Sectional tournament. The team’s win-loss record for the regular season is now 17 -3.

Last year, the Bulldogs advanced to the semi-finals and lost an extremely close game to Westport.

In the first half, ORR seemed as if it couldn’t miss from behind the three-point line and scored seven shots. In the second half, the boys focused on getting the ball inside the paint and driving towards the basket.

Freshman guard Noah Fernandes led the team with 23 points. Sophomore Matt Valles, senior co-captain Jordan Menard and senior Ryan Beatty all scored 12 points.
