Winter farmers market to begin Nov. 8

Oct 28, 2014

Summer is the obvious time to have a farmers market, but there is still produce to be had in the cooler months. Now tri-town residents will have better access to local vegetables with a new monthly winter farmers market in Mattapoisett.

“I think it’s really going to be a great additive to town festivities,” said Jennifer Szabo, who has managed the summer farmers market at Old Rochester Regional Junior High for the past two summers.

“These are two different markets, but there will be some overlap,” she said.

Skinny Dip Farm as well as Rochester’s Cervelli Farm will bring produce. There will also be Bobby Mac’s Mobile Sharpening as well as vendors selling cheese, olive oil, kettle corn and local handmade products. Szabo plans to incorporate entertainment for kids as well as a visit from Santa at the December market.

“We’re hoping we get a lot of the same participants and same customers that we had for the [summer] market,” Szabo said.

She said the market will start out with around 15 vendors and will grow as the months progress.

Like the summer market, the winter one will be held at the junior high, though it will move indoors to the gym. The market will be held the second Saturday of each month, Nov. 8 through May 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
