Wintry blast would put Rochester account deeper in the red

The calendar says spring, but Old Man Winter isn’t hearing any of that.
With temperatures unseasonably cold and a potential snowstorm forecast for Wednesday, Town Administrator Rich LaCamera told Selectmen the town had a $41,000 deficit in the snow and ice removal budget that is “climbing.”
“It just isn’t going to end and it’s really a little discouraging,” he said.
The snow and ice account is the only one cities and towns are allowed to deficit spend by state law. In past meetings, LaCamera said unspent funds from other accounts would be used to cover the shortfall.
Following the storm the mercury is set to hit the 50s. Saying that, LaCamera ended his report on a bright note: “So the snow won’t last that long.”
