MATTAPOISETT — The Woman's Club will host Luana Josvold of the League of Women Voters as its speaker on Thursday, Feb. 13.
Josvold’s presentation will focus on the League of Women Voters and how the Tri-Town League has expanded to become the League of Women Voters of SouthCoast. The speaker will share concerns about the direction of the U.S. democracy, and why the league is moving to become more involved with social issues to make communities safer, not only for immigrants but for everyone, and how immigration policies should promote reunification of immediate families; meet economic, business and employment needs; and be responsive to those facing political persecution or humanitarian crises.
Since 1920, The League of Women Voters has been an activist, grassroots organization whose leaders believed that voters should play a critical role in democracy.
Club meetings are held at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church's Renard Hall, located at the corner of Church and Mechanic Streets, beginning at 11 a.m. Members provide an informal luncheon. All are welcome to attend and hear the speaker. For more information, contact Christine Voss at 508-758-3348 or visit www.mattappoisettwomansclub.org.
