Young people’s concert brings kids to the bandstand

MARION — Children danced and played in front of the Robert Broomhead Bandstand in Marion during the Marion Concert Band’s annual “Young People’s Concert” on Friday, July 14.

The concert was a part of the Marion Concert Band’s weekly summer concert series.

The band played childrens’ songs old and new: from an arrangement of Disney songs, to classic nursery rhymes.

The concert also featured a euphonium solo by Tobias Monte, Jr., the son of Marion Concert Band conductor, Tobias Monte.

“The cool thing about doing a young person’s program is that you get to show off young talent,” said Tobias Monte, Sr., introducing his son. “And as a parent you always marvel at your children’s accomplishments.”

The “young people’s concert” on July 14 is one in a series of Friday night concerts put on by the Marion Concert Band.

The next concert will be held on Friday, July 21 at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand at 7 p.m.

The program will feature American popular music in a variety of pop styles from the 1900s to the present. The featured soloist will be trumpeter Mary St. Laurent-Sheehan.
