Little League wins Sandwich all star tournament

The Old Rochester Little League nine-year-old All-Star Team took home the win on Monday at the Sandwich Summer Blast Championship.
This year is the first that has seen the Rochester Youth League combined with the Old Rochester Little League.
“It’s a great start,” said Team Manager Derek Mello. “We’ve got some great kids on this team, and it’s just great to see them work together.”
The team was undefeated in the tournament, which started on June 27 with a win against Norwell. The team next defeated Dennis-Yarmouth. The third game was cancelled due to heavy rains, and the Bulldogs moved to the elimination round as the third seed.
More strong performances saw the team take out Canton 5-1 and Norwell again with 9-0. The semifinal game against Westwood was tight for three innings, but the Bulldogs managed to excel with a final score of 9-2.
For the championship game against Milton, the ORLL team beat their opponents 4-0.
The team has attended the championship for many years, said Mello.
“We’ve come close before,” he said. “This is one of the first teams in Old Rochester’s history to actually win the tournament.”
Next, the team will go to the Rehoboth Summer Slam Tournament.
