'Wave' goodbye, Marion restaurant to change name
The Wave Restaurant & Bar is scheduled to reopen following renovations this May, but it will do so under a new name.
Owner Todd Zell sought Selectmen’s approval on Tuesday to open it’s doors as “Brew Fish” once construction is complete.
Zell also sought approval for a change in plans to the restaurant’s current makeover.
Because the location of the bar will be changed, Zell needed approval from Selectmen and the state’s alcoholic beverage commission.
The change links the establishment’s two bars, including the main bar that sat 30 people and a second bar in the dining room that seated 10 people.
The renovations will join the bars but will result in a reduced capacity. The renovations will lessen the number of seats at the bar to approximately 22 customers.
“People were really jammed in there,” Zell said. “We wanted the bar to be bigger but with less seating.”
Zell said a soft opening for friends and family by invitation only is scheduled for Monday, May 19, a trial run for Memorial Day weekend.
“That will allow us to work out the kinks,” he said.
If all goes well, Zell said the restaurant should be open to the public on Thursday, May 29.
Zell added that, though the seats will be fewer, the number of beers on tap will be increased. Patrons can expect to choose from any one of 40 different brews at the renovated bar.
Zell and business associates announced The Wave Restaurant & Bar would close for renovations in December.
