The Hollywood Scoop serves up celebrity-inspired menu
When Lori and Bruce Truehart say they roll out the red carpet for their customers, they mean it literally.
The owners of Mattapoisett’s newest restaurant and ice cream shop, The Hollywood Scoop, are serving up the full celebrity experience from wait staff dressed as Disney pirates and princesses to a six-page menu replete with movie, TV and music references and trivia.
And, of course, customers take their first steps in the restaurant on a red carpet.
“It’s a place that you can bring your kids or bring your grandmother,” said Lori. “Everyone should be able to feel comfortable.”
The Trueharts relocated The Hollywood Scoop from Fairhaven to the site of the former Village Scoop on Route 6 and said the building is a better fit for them with indoor seating, a covered patio and picnic tables.
The Hollywood theme comes naturally to the pair. Lori is a self-described “dance mom” and the couple’s daughters have been in dance competitions, pageants and on the screen.
The extensive menu also reflects their love of the silver screen. The “Bruce Almighty” appetizers and sides section features Lord of the Onion Rings, Lean and Mean Girls Cheese Fries and Kardashian’s Golden Fingers.
Each day the couple will have a new movie playing at the restaurant and specials that go with it.
The Hollywood Scoop also serves up Rockin’ & Roastin’ Coffee, a company owned by Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer.
Celebrities aren’t only on the menu (and the walls) said Bruce. A big fan of Kramer, he said the musician plans to come visit the restaurant at a to-be-determined date.
Other celebrities are also welcome to come by, said the Trueharts. The restaurant’s Facebook page has the scoop (pun intended) on all the happenings at the restaurant.
Also in keeping with the establishment’s name, the restaurant has a staggering amount of ice cream. More than 80 of the flavors are hard serve from Acushnet Creamery and the rest are soft serve. There’s even an ice cream for canines that features doggie bones, though pets should come to the ice cream window for a scoop of that.
Due to the plethora of options, Bruce said he plans to make a roulette wheel with all of the restaurant’s offerings to help the indecisive choose between the Mary-Kate and Ashley Double Bacon Cheeseburger or the Big Bang Theory “cosmic club” sandwich and the deep fried Oreos or the deep fried bananas.
And if that fails, the wait staff have their instructions: “If somebody asks for something, don’t say ‘no.’ Go ask the cook,” said Bruce.
The soft opening for the restaurant was June 7. A grand opening is in the works.
