Marion's Halloween parade showcases creative costumes

Nov 1, 2014

Led by the Sippican Elementary School Styxx Drum Corps, the Marion Art Center's annual Halloween parade again kicked off trick-or-treating in the village.

Each year, the Marion Art Center’s witches, who are dedicated center volunteers, coordinate the event and also pass out goody bags inside the Music Hall at the parade's end. Center volunteers noted they were grateful for help from Marion police officers who redirected traffic and helped park hundreds of cars at Town Wharf.

On Friday afternoon, families gathered in front of the Music Hall and marched up Main Street before disbanding in front of the school.

The Wyman family arrived with their son Benjamin whose elaborate, homemade costume put him inside a whac-a-mole machine. Together, Benjamin and his father Steve came up with the idea and built the costume.

Movie and television characters were also popular. A Dalek, stormtrooper, Gru and a couple of Maleficents were seen alongside kids clad in more traditional costumes such as superheroes, fairy princesses and clowns.
