Narcotics, ammunition, cash seized in Marion drug bust
Two Marion men were arrested on narcotics charges Wednesday following a months long joint investigation between the Mattapoisett and Barnstable Police Departments.
A statement from the Mattapoisett Police Department said narcotics officers confirmed three locations where Spencer Mello, 24, and Antone Mello, 44, allegedly sold drugs: 968 Point Road in Marion, the Hillside Motel in Mattapoisett and 50 New Plainville Road, Apt. M76 in New Bedford.
According to a statement released by the Mattapoisett police, narcotics officers conducted surveillance of Spencer and Antone Mello for several months.
During this time, it was discovered that both allegedly sold illegal narcotics from those three separate locations.
Throughout the investigation narcotics officers conducted multiple controlled purchases of heroin from Spencer and Antone Mello at each location. Police said Spencer Mello also used his vehicle to sell drugs in various locations from Cape Cod to New Bedford.
On Wednesday, narcotics officers executed six search warrants that netted approximately 14 grams of heroin and approximately 14 grams of cocaine, some of which was already packaged for distribution.
In addition to the heroin and cocaine, Spencer Mello was allegedly found in possession of ammunition, a large capacity magazine, a bullet proof tactical vest, brass knuckles, digital scales, packaging material and a commercial grade money counter.
Police allege that Antone Mello was found in the possession of crack cocaine, packaging material, digital scales and brass knuckles.
Officers also seized a total of $2,000 and a 2005 Toyota Scion.
Spencer Mello was charged with possession with intent to distribute a class A substance (heroin,) possession with the intent to distribute a class B substance (cocaine,) possession of a high capacity magazine, and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card. Bail was set on Thursday at $10,000.
Antone Mello was charged with possession with intent to distribute a class B substance (cocaine.)
During this investigation, the Mattapoisett Police Department and Barnstable Police Department received assistance from the Wareham Police Department. In addition, detectives from the South Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) detective division assisted in the execution of the search warrants.
These agencies consisted of Fairhaven Police, Seekonk Police, Carver Police and Marion Police. Members of the Bristol County Sheriffs South Coast Anti-crime Task Force, Plymouth County Sheriffs K-9 unit and Bourne Police K-9 also assisted with the execution of the search warrants.
