Lilian M. (Hanninen) Niemi, 99, of Centerville died Jan. 21 in the Cape Regency Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Onni Niemi who died in 2005 and the daughter of the late Johannes and Hannah (Leppaluoto) Hanninen.

She was born in Wareham and lived in Centerville since 1938. She attended Wareham High School.

Mrs. Niemi was a cranberry grower and a member of the Ocean Spray Cooperative.

She was a member of the Finnish American Club and the First Lutheran Church in West Barnstable.  She enjoyed golfing and Finnish history and genealogy.

Survivors include her brother, Arni J. Hanninen of Methuen; a sister, Elsie Heleen of Rochester and her nephews and nieces, Nancy Sheehan, Michael Hanninen, Judith Williams, Kevin Niemi and Aili DeClerck.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours are from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
