Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper movie films in Rochester
When a new movie starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro hits the big screen later this year, it may include some familiar scenes.
A crew from "Joy" was in town last Thursday, shooting scenery and roadways along Vaughan Hill Road and Hartley Road, according to Police Chief Paul Magee.
Directed by David O. Russell, "Joy" is based on the life of Joy Mangano, the "mother of invention" who created the Miracle Mop and other items for home organization.
How Rochester will figure into "Joy" is unknown.
None of the stars were present, though "rumors fly," Magee said.
Filming lasted throughout the day, and Magee's officers were hired to keep areas of the roads clear for short times during the filming.
Magee said Rochester may have been suggested by someone on the film crew who was from this area, said Magee.
"It's nice that they found it to be a good scene for the movie," Magee said.
During filming, a fire broke out on Vaughan Hill Road with three additional fire departments responding. Otherwise, filming continued as expected.
Magee said he is unaware of any plans for the movie crew to return, and he wasn't sure how the scenes would play into the final product.
"You never know what makes the final cut," he said.
According to several online sources, the movie is schedule for release in December.
