Music from Land’s End to perform ‘Iconic Piano Trios’ in Marion
Event Date:
MARION — Featuring the music of Beethoven and Mendelssohn, Music from Land’s End is coming to Marion to perform “Iconic Piano Trios.”
Music From Land’s End is an annual concert series sponsored by the Wareham Cultural Council, bringing chamber music concerts that showcase “internationally acclaimed artists” to the South Coast.
The concerts are free for all attendees, with a donation recommended upon entrance to the show.
The upcoming Marion concert will take place on Friday, August 8 at 7 p.m. in St. Gabriel’s Church, featuring a performance by pianist Gideon Rubin, violinist Ariadne Daskalakis and cellist Paige Riggs.
Daskalakis emphasized that she always enjoys performing for South Coast audiences.
“Wareham is our home and we love playing in Marion as well. They have such nice venues there and very loyal audiences,” she said.
Daskalakis serves as the Artistic Director of Music from Land’s End, in addition to working as a professional violinist and a violin professor at Cologne Conservatory of Music and Dance.
She has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the English Chamber Orchestra, the Athens State Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and has received awards from the Harvard Music Association and the New England Conservatory.
Friday’s program in Marion is described as the “ultimate traditional chamber music program” by Daskalakis.
“Whether you understand classical music or not, I think everybody will enjoy that type of experience, and it’s a great way of acting sinking into that experience for people who might not be that familiar with it,” she said.
Rubin is a pianist who has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Classical Orchestra and New World Symphony as a soloist, and has collaborated with members of National Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the St. Louis Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony.
He currently serves as Chair of the Piano Department at the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School.
Riggs is the principal cellist of the Westmoreland and McKeesport Symphonies, and also serves as the principal cellist and soloist with the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival for the past 14 years.
She is also on the music faculty of Slippery Rock University, and previously taught at the University of Virginia and Lawrence University.
