Women in Waders provides aquatic adventures for ladies
Ladies are invited to join the Buzzards Bay Coalition's female education staff for a series of three adventures as part of Women in Waders. Women will explore ways to get up close and personal with nature in a safe and supportive environment.
Women of all ages are welcome to these free programs. (Ladies under 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult.) Waders and other equipment will be provided, or participants may bring their own.
On Wednesday, May 20, Women in Waders will be "Seeking Shellfish" in Marion where ladies will learn to dig for quahogs at low tide and try their hand at shucking a clam. This will be a “dig and release” activity unless you have a valid Marion shellfish permit. This adventure will be at Silvershell Beach.
Women will be "Bugging Out" in Mattapoisett on Wednesday, May 27 as Women in Waders examines the diversity of life that exists at the edge of the Mattapoisett River. Women will learn about aquatic macroinvertebrates (aka “big water bugs”) and learn about the interesting adaptations of these unusual creatures, many of which will probably be new to you.
This event will be at The Bogs on Acushnet Road.
These events are free, and run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Registration is required. To RSVP, call 508-999-6363 ext. 219 or email bayadventures@savebuzzardsbay.org.
