Artist donates paintings of oil spill to Mattapoisett
Mattapoisett resident Michael Mazer has donated two watercolor prints to the town that depict the 2003 Bouchard oil spill.
The images were presented to the town at Tuesday night’s Selectmen meeting. Although Mazer was not able to attend, his wife, Marilyn, spoke about the prints.
Since the oil spill affected Mattapoisett, the Mazers thought the gift to the town would be appropriate.
The Coast Guard commissioned the original watercolors, said Marilyn.
Michael is a designated artist for the United States Coast Guard, and several of his paintings are in its permanent collection in Washington, D.C.
The prints given to the town will be placed in the harbormaster’s office at Town Wharf.
“It’ll be a great addition to the office, that’s for sure,” said Harbormaster Jill Simmons.
