Bay Club 3rd development to seek free trash pickup
The Bay Club is the latest development that will seek free trash pickup from the Planning Board.
ABC Disposal’s current contract with the town charges a flat fee for all pickup. As Mattapoisett is not charged per location, residents in several private housing developments have requested a change in their original permits from the Planning Board, which require them to make their own arrangements for pickup.
This year, the Planning Board approved free pickup for The Village at Mattapoisett and Brandt Island Village.
While the Planning Board did approve pickup, it does not ensure that the developments will always have the service for free. If the additional properties would cost the town extra under future agreements, then the original conditions would be reinstated.
David Andrews, director of sales and membership development for the Bay Club, said that, given the previous decisions, it seemed like the right time to request a hearing before the Planning Board.
“We thought it would not be inappropriate to ask for the same treatment,” Andrews said.
If approved, about 60 residences would benefit. Currently, the Bay Club uses Waste Management’s services and residents pay for it as part of their homeowner association fees.
The Planning Board hearing is scheduled for Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.
