UPDATED: Marion Police arrest man after report of shots fired, car chase

One man was arrested Monday evening after leading police on a brief car chase down Route 6 following a report of shots fired near the Mattapoisett and Marion town line.

According to emergency broadcasts, the incident started at approximately 6:50 p.m. when police responded to an “active shooter” situation.

A press release from the Marion Police Department indicated that police were called for a domestic violence call. A female victim reported that she had been shot at while traveling on Route 6, in the area of Sparrow Lane.

Officers located the suspect shortly afterwards, driving in the opposite direction on Route 6. The man, whose identity is unknown at this time, then led police on a chase east on Route 6 in a black 2016 Mustang convertible. As the suspect attempted to exit onto Route 195 westbound, he lost control of the vehicle on the on-ramp and crashed into several trees. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody with no further incidents around 7 p.m. A handgun was located inside the vehicle.

Nobody was injured in the incident, and no shots were fired by police.
