Marion Fire Department truck Engine 1 was involved in a minor car accident on Monday, Sept. 25, and sustained superficial scratches to the passenger side.

The department was dispatched to a medical call on Cove Street shortly before 8 p.m. The department was in the procress of regular drills, and sent Engine 1 because both an EMT and paramedic were already inside.

The department was notified en route that there were cars parked on both side of the narrow street. Despite efforts, the engine hit a parked car.

“It was very minor in nature,” Town Administrator Paul Dawson said at the Tuesday night Board of Selectmen meeting.

Dawson said firefighters estimated that there was about one to one-and-a-half inches on either side of the street between the engine and the parked cars.

Police and Fire Chief Brian Jackvony were notified and came to the scene. The parked car had scratches along its driver’s side, similar to sideswipe damages, Dawson said.

Repairs are being handled through insurance.
