High school students celebrate Dia de los Muertos

Nov 5, 2017

Spanish students at Old Rochester Regional High School recently celebrated "Dia de los Muertos" (Mexico's "Day of the Dead") in a new way—by making tombstones.

According to high school Spanish teacher Diana Carreira, the students created tombstones for their favorite dearly-departed celebrities, and celebrated their lives by sampling their favorite foods.

Old Rochester librarian Allison Barker also helped the students create sugar skulls (a traditional holiday candy treat) masks, and other decorations to learn more about the holiday.
