Nov 17, 2017

Phillip Campbell Farist Devor died unexpectedly in Norwood, MA on November 9, 2017 at the age of 35. He was born at Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge MA.

Phil is survived by his brothers Chris Devor of Boston MA and John Devor of Baltimore MD; his sisters Francie Foster and Chris Foster of Needham MA; his mom Barbie Butler Foster and stepdad Reg Foster of Needham MA; his dad Richard Devor and stepmom Jennifer Devor of Charlottesville, VA; and his grandmother Ann Butler of Mattapoisett, his grandfather and step-grandmother Revs. Richard and Nancy Devor of Boston, MA.

Phil attended the the Potomac School in McLean, VA from which he graduated in June 2001 with high honors. He was an avid computer programmer, one of the brightest stars of the Potomac School’s math and science departments, as well as a great football team captain for the Potomac Panthers.

In the fall of 2001, Phil began his college studies at MIT. He was able to follow his love of neurobiology and computers for two years. He grappled successfully with the very demanding MIT academic program and community, before finally succumbing to the illness which would dominate the last third of his life.

We’ve lost our gentle giant, with his big hugs and joie de vivre. His integrity, huge heart and abundant love will always be remembered.

Please honor Phil’s life by making a contribution in his name to McLean Hospital (www.mcleanhospital.org) or the National Alliance on Mental Illness (www.namimass.org).
