Cub scouts spin their wheels at soapbox derby

Nov 18, 2017

Cub Scout Troop 32's pit crew had to duck for cover occasionally on Saturday, when the troop's homemade soapbox derby cars occasionally veered wildly off the road.

Lawns, gardens, mailboxes—and in one instance, a parent—all found themselves at the wrong end of a derby car while the races ran on Holmes Street. There was no harm done though; strategically placed hay bales prevented any damage and a scraped knee is easily treated.

The Cub Scouts raced the soapbox cars every year; this year, Cub Scout members raced until noon, and opened the course up to interested passersby and friends and family from noon to 1 p.m.
