Bulldogs top Apponequet 43-14 in Thanksgiving matchup

Nov 23, 2017

The Old Rochester Bulldogs varsity football team ended their season on a high note on November 23, defeating the Apponequet Lakers 43-14.

It was a chilly Thanksgiving morning, in which temperatures didn't rise more than about 36 degrees; ORR coach Justin Kogler, hoping to take advantage of the weather, attempted to have Apponequet throw the football into the wind.

An active first half of the game saw senior running back Harry Smith, playing in his last high-school game, score three touchdowns; junior Will Garcia scored a touchdown of his own. The pair are the only teammates from Old Rochester (and the surrounding high schools) to each score 20 or more touchdowns in a season.

By half-time, the score was 27-14, in favor of the Bulldogs; the Lakers would not complete another touchdown.

Smith and Garcia, however, took another touchdown each in the third quarter of the game. The final score was 43-14.
