A new restaurant is coming to The Ropewalk.

The space left empty by the Flour Girls cafe will become home to The Walrus and Captain, a restaurant that will serve breakfast and lunch.

The property is owned by Sky Development Limited, and principal Mike Sudofsky came before the Mattapoisett Board of Selectmen to request an all alcohol beverage license on Dec. 12.

“In the morning it’s a full breakfast, it’s a bistro,” Sudofsky said. “At lunch, it’s a full lunch. It’s a somewhat elegant lunch with a bar.”

Sudofsky also mentioned the possibility of dinner being served on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings during the summer. However, for now, he plans to operate within the hours of The Ropewalk – 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

"It would behoove us to stop serving lunch around 2:30 or 3," he said.

The license was approved, and construction is already underway on the restaurant, with hopes that it will be open in January.

"The other tenants are asking us to proceed soon," Sudofsky said.
