Trash truck catches on fire on I-195 in Marion

A trash truck caught on fire on I-195 westbound on January 10, just past the Marion exit.

According to emergency broadcasts, the fire was reported around 6:10 p.m. The driver was able to exit the truck and is unharmed. Police reported that the fire was caused by a mechanical failure, and heavily damaged the cab and engine area of the truck.

The highway was closed from Wareham to the scene of the fire as first responders tackled the blaze.

Marion Fire and EMS were on scene, alongside Wareham Fire. According to police, there were concerns that the truck was fueled by Compressed Natural Gas, but that was not the case. The fire was extinguished within fifteen minutes.

Marion Police and Massachusetts State Police assisted with traffic control at the scene.
