Third annual 'Miss Inspirational' to run May 5

Apr 24, 2018

The third annual Miss Inspirational Program is coming to Old Rochester Regional High School on Saturday, May 5. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the school's auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

This year’s “Miss Inspirational” program, a pageant for young women with special needs, is sponsored in part by the United Way of Greater New Bedford's Community-Building Mini-Grant Program, and proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Boston Children’s Hospital.

Hosted by Mattapoisett resident and reigning Miss Massachusetts Jillian Zucco, the event is designed to be a confidence-builder focusing on ability and empowerment. Her goal is to give girls and young women with special needs the same opportunity she has—a pageant-like program that allows them to tell the community their story, to demonstrate their grace and confidence, and to showcase their talent, unique ability, or something they are proud of in front of a large audience. In doing so, Zucco said hopes to raise public awareness of our “differently abled” population.

Inspired by the special bond she has with her disabled cousin, Zucco wants the public to be more sensitive and embracing of those with special needs.

“They want the same things we all do, and they want to be included socially,” she said.

Admission to watch the show is $12 if tickets are purchased online through www.eventbrite.com (available through May 1 only), or $15 at the door, pending availability.  Refreshments, raffles and a Chinese auction will be available in the foyer.
