Stabbing reported in Mattapoisett

A midafternoon stabbing in Mattapoisett on April 24 sent the victim to Rhode Island Hospital, said the town's Police Chief Mary Lyons.

The stabbing occurred around 4 p.m. near Ned's Point Lighthouse. Emergency broadcasts indicated that the victim was stabbed in the neck. Lyons indicated that the two parties involved knew each other, and that the incident was an isolated one.

Officers from the Mattapoisett Police Department located the victim, who was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Mattapoisett EMS. The victim is in stable condition.

As of Wednesday morning, there was no report of an arrest.

All names are being withheld, according to the Police Department.

It is unclear how police learned of the stabbing. The press release described the police as "locating" the victim after the incident.
