Students offered 'educational tour' of England and Scotland

Apr 26, 2018

Next April, students from Old Rochester Regional High School will have the opportunity to spend 10 days traveling through England and Scotland.

"It's a real educational opportunity, especially in terms of English and history," said high school English teacher Robert Biehl. Biehl and fellow English teacher Merrideth Wickman came up with the trip idea and will be chaperoning it.

Biehl sought approval for the trip from the Old Rochester Regional School Committee, who approved the request.

Biehl said that the trip would take place approximately between April 11-20 of 2019. He had hoped to get permission as early as possible, though, as students who sign up by May 29 save $200 on the trip.

The overall cost of the trip, he said, is about $3,121 per student. That's unlikely to be the final cost, though, he added, as there are plans to put on several fundraisers to bring the cost down. There is also a 10-month payment plan available.

The students will visit London and Edinburgh, as well as making trips to Bath, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare. They'll also view several castles, including Alnwick, a filming location of the "Harry Potter" movies.

"That's popular with the students," Biehl laughed.
