Reigning Miss Massachusetts -- and Mattapoisett native -- Jillian Zucco is out for blood. A blood drive, that is.

Zucco will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on World Blood Donor Day, Thursday, June 14, from 1 to 6 p.m. at St. Anthony's Church hall, 22 Barstow St.

A registered nurse, the cause is near and dear to Zucco.

"This blood drive is a way of providing community members an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others," she said. The short amount of time it takes to donate can mean a lifetime to a patient in critical need."

Walk-ins are welcome, but organizers recommend that donors schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or by signing up online at redcrossblood.org. Use the code MA02739.
