Jun 12, 2018

At least three people were injured in a rollover accident on Route 6 in front of the Mattapoisett police station on June 12.

Responding officers found a severely damaged Mazda SUV on its roof in the roadway shortly before 11 a.m. The driver of the vehicle was trapped inside. Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash.

A Boston MedFlight helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but later canceled due to an extended response time, police said. The driver of the Mazda was extricated from the car and taken to Rhode Island Trauma Center.

The occupants of the second and third vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police, and were brought to Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

The identities of the injured were not released. The accident remains under investigation.

Route 6 was closed for an hour while first-responders investigated the accident and cleared debris. In addition to Mattapoisett Police and Mattapoisett Fire, Fairhaven Fire and EMS, Marion Fire and EMS, Fairhaven Police, and Marion Police responded to the scene.
