Dickinson vs. Whitman Poetry Knockout
Event has passed
Join the Marion Art Center for an evening of great poetry at the MAC.
First, a poetic duel between two writers of the same generation who seem polar opposites. Emily Dickinson (portrayed by Annmarie Fredericks), reclusive, conservative, thoughtful and reserved, takes on Walt Whitman (portrayed by Stephen Collins), the laconic nature-loving, liberal. Whose reach is longer? Whose lines are deeper? Are they more alike than different? You could be surprised. The audience will question the poets and decide who wins the poetry belt! Then, in our second half, we’ll hear work by some of our community’s poets and enjoy coffee and cookies.
Note: To submit your poem for the reading in our second half, please send it to marionartcenter@ gmail.com along with your contact information.
Capacity: 60 adults
Approved poets attend for free.
