MARION — The Marion Natural History Museum's Coastal Explorations group explored Marion’s watershed last week at a variety of spots across town.
Explorers turned over logs, caught frogs and took a close look at soils in the woods at Washburn Park. Then, they examined seaweed, caught fish, and created a rock sculpture, called Rocky, at Brainard Marsh.
The children compared salt marshes to rocky intertidal shores at Planting Island, and heard about the sea turtles of Buzzards Bay and how to protect them at the Marion Natural History Museum.
Explorers also learned a little about oysters, what an "upweller" does and how it helps the Sippican Harbor shellfish population with the Marion Harbormaster’s office.
