WAREHAM — The Old Rochester Bulldogs boys varsity basketball team fell to the Wareham Vikings, 67-63, in their season opener on Friday night.

Seemingly overwhelmed at times by the Vikings’ defensive play, the Bulldogs found themselves behind by only 7 points at halftime, 27-34.

ORR came out with a spark in the second half, however, erased the Vikings lead and went up by 36-34 only 2 minutes into the third quarter. Despite the flurry of back-and-forth scoring in the third, the Bulldogs once again found themselves down by 6 points, 51-45 at the end of the quarter.

The fourth quarter proved to be a nailbiter, where ORR pulled within 2 points, 65-63 with only 26 seconds left, led by 5 free throw points by Senior Elijah Miranda.  Back and forth fouls and free throws ended the hopes of the opening-day victory as the Bulldogs ended up with the 67-63 loss.

The Bulldogs’ scoring was led by  Jonah Depina with 16 points. Wayne Andrews (15 points) and Elijah Miranda (13 points) also had strong games.
